Evidence-based Medical Advice

At Medimax Obesity Institute, we believe in applying evidence-based medical advice to our process. We do not rely on fad diets or other weight loss methods that produce temporary or unhealthy results.

What is evidence-based medical advice?

At Medimax Obesity Institute, we believe in applying evidence-based medical advice to our process. What does this mean? It means that we do not rely on fad diets or other weight loss methods that produce temporary or unhealthy results. Given the popularity and importance of weight loss and healthy living, many treatments and approaches have come and gone. Since our approach comes from a medical perspective, we understand the science behind weight loss. We also strive to create a supportive environment that encourages people to stick to tried and true methods, both in a group setting and during one-on-one consultations.

Obesity is a chronic disease that requires medical advice to control. The right approach can make all the difference in the world. Any focus or approach that does not take your long-term health into account is not worth the time or effort. You and your loved ones deserve better than that, and we can help you achieve success in the short-term and down the road.* If you suffer from conditions associated with obesity or excessive weight, such as type 2 diabetesGERD, high cholesterol, high blood pressurearthritis and urinary incontinence, our evidence-based medical advice will also focus on those secondary issues. Weight gain can have more of an effect on our health than we realize, but the right medical professional can help you address multiple health concerns.*

Manage your chronic disease through a comprehensive and holistic approach

Our comprehensive and holistic approach to weight loss includes:

  • Psychology
  • Endocrinology
  • Genetics
  • Metabolism
  • Exercise

Dr. Etienne Venter is our team’s neuropsychologist who specializes in helping patients overcome eating disorders. Psychological challenges can be a major hurdle for certain people who want to lose weight. Our psychologists will work with you to ensure that you have realistic expectations and a sound mindset so that you can achieve your weight loss goals. Endocrinology is the study of hormones, and since hormones contribute to diabetes, appetite and obesity, it is important to manage them. With a dedicated team of medical experts in your corner, we can monitor and balance your hormone levels.* Genetics play an important role in how your body is shaped and how fast your metabolism works. We focus on both of those factors to provide a custom weight loss plan just for you. Your exercise routine will also be different from other patient’s because everyone is different. Some people need more exercise than others, and some people will only need to focus exercises that produce certain outcomes. Everything is connected, and when we look to help our patients, we aim to improve your overall health, not just your stomach line.*

Our institute also features the SECA body composition scanner to show how much lean muscle is in your body and where it is distributed.* With this technology, we can obtain evidence on what is happening with our patients as they lose weight.*
